Brexit breaks Betfair betting records as punters left 'stunned'A record £127m was traded across the Betfair Exchange EU Referendum market as punters wagered the outcome of the vote until the last minute.
It took until 3am for the Leave camp to become the favourite to win, with the implied probability from the exchange putting the Remain campaign at a 94pc chance of winning.
“The EU referendum market drew a remarkable amount of interest, most notably on the day of the vote itself, trading over £85m," said Betfair's Naomi Totten.
"In normal circumstances when a market is showing this much confidence in a result, the probability dictates that it will happen. But this referendum market was as extraordinary as the result itself and Betfair punters were left stunned by the market reaction."
